Earth Hour 2011

1st April '11

Once again residents and businesses were urged to join and pledge their support for EARTH HOUR 2011. Millions of people around the world are invited once a year to join other major cities towns and villages as Earth Hour follows time zones around the globe with country after country switching off non-essential lights and electrical appliances, starting in the Pacific Islands and New Zealand and followed soon afterwards by Sydney, Australia where the first Earth Hour event took place in 2007.

It is hoped that a billion individuals and businesses will participate in 2011 to help to fight climate change.

Earth Hour takes place in the U.K. on Saturday 26th March 2011, starting at 8.30.p.m. until 9.30.p.m.

However the event is about more than one night each year. It is really about inspiring people to make daily changes that will have a meaningful effect on reducing global emissions world wide.

Were you aware of the annual event taking place ?  If not and therefore did not participate last time, you could still make a lasting contribution by considering changes to everyday habits. Leave unecessary lights and appliances switched off when not in use or install simple devices such as timers or sensors.

We programme the astronomic clock in our control system to shut down the showroom automatically at the beginning of Earth Hour each year.
