APAYA COLLECTION![]() Sculptured Wool Lighting designed by Ayala Serfaty The new APAYA collection, designed in collaboration with textile artist Irit Dulman, represents 'another milestone in Ayala Serfaty's organic design journey'. 'In this new collection Serfaty deepens her passionate research and continuous interest in textiles and light. Her fascination with felt can be traced back to the year 2000 when she first incorporated the material into her designs "Litelight" and "Soof". Then the felt used was synthetic, industrially produced. Now, with the new collection, the felt is being produced in the Aqua Creations Studio using ancient manual felting techniques. These techniques were the first and primal textile production techniques used by man and were almost pushed aside when industrial weaving was introduced. While felt was mainly associated with craft, felt art is recently being culturally revived and acknowledged for its sculptural quality that allows sustainable art. APAYA is the contemporay result of a conscious design process : the combination of the old handcraft techniques with advanced lighting technology creating the very first application of hand-made felt to contemporary lighting."
