AJ TABLEThis modern classic table lamp was designed by Danish architect Arne Jacobsen for the SAS Royal Hotel Copenhagen as part of his total design concept for the hotel The lamp has an angled adjustable head with a distinctive asymmetric conical shaped shade in spun steel, a steel stem and a die-cast zinc base. To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the launch of this family of luminaires, five new colour variants were introduced, chosen from an updated Arne Jacobsen colour concept together with Black, Graphite Grey and White. Arne Jacobsen [1902 - 1971 ] was one of Denmarks most successful architects and designers. He was born and bred in Copenhagen to Jewish parents and studied architecture at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. At the outbreak of World War II, like Poul Henningsen, he fled across the water to safety and exile in Sweden. Much of his work was considered to be controversial and experimental and he was largeley responsible for establishing the Danish modern movement. He disliked the term architect and became well known for his furniture and product designs. His best known larger commissions include the SAS Royal Hotel, Copenhagen and St Catherine's College, Oxford.
