PH ARTICHOKE![]() This classic piece was originally designed for a restaurant in Copenhagen called the Langelinie Pavilion and the original fittings are still in place. A special limited edition to mark 50 years was produced with the leaves gilded in 24 carat gold. The concept of a glare-free luminaire in which the light source is shielded from view from any angle was one that particularly interested the designer Poul Henningsen and can be seen in many of his luminaire design solutions. The 72 'leaves' are supported on 12 main steel arched frames and resemble an artichoke from which its name derived. In the original these leaves were punched from copper sheet. Although this is still the 'iconic' piece, the fitting is also produced in brushed stainless steel and a white painted finish. Available in four sizes Dia 48cms x H 49.7cms, Dia 60cms x H 58cms, Dia 72 cms x H 65cms, Dia 84cms x H 72 cms. Suspension cable and flex 4m in length. Poul Henningsen [1864 - 1967] was born in Copenhagen and studied architecture. and for a brief period was head architect at the TIvoli Gardens. He also became a jounalist. His lifelong collaboration with Louis Poulsen began in 1925 and became the basis of the company's philosophy and lighting theory.
