BL1![]() A classic British design from Robert Dudley Best , contemporary with the 1920's Bauhaus movement in Germany. Best studied at the Dusseldorf School of Industrial Design and worked for a design studio in Paris before designing the Bestlite for his family owned company Best and Lloyd that had been manufacturing high quality lighting in Smethwick since 1840. The Bestlite combines the syle of French modernism with the functionalism associated with the German Bauhaus school, and became an icon of British lighting design. It came to prominence when it became a feature of Winston Churchill's desk in Whitehall and was at his bedside in the Cabinet War Rooms. The robust form works beautifully with its pivoting head and rotating arm, adjustable in height from 51cms to 84cms. Family of luminaires for direct and task lighting.
