RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2014

Chelsea Lighting Design is delighted and privileged to have been involved in the worlds most famous flower show again.

We were approached by the designer of the WellChild Fresh Garden, Olivia Kirk, to suggest a lighting solution for her garden at Chelsea.

WellChild is a national charity for sick children and the sensory garden has planted beds with pathways between representing the hand symbol of the WellChild organisation. These are set against a backdrop created by a wall clad in warm cedar shingles and with openings leading the eye to the view beyond of the bronze sculpture by Michael Speller.

The lighting required a refined solution that nestled naturally within the planting providing pools of light and a soft illumination of the background. The perfect solution was BRISA an LED light fitting with small conical heads on long stems that can be rotated to vary the lighting distribution.  The bronze paint finish matched the sculptural elements perfectly and the naturalistic form of the fittings blended discretely with the surroundings to provide a balanced and very pleasing result.

Olivia Kirk works extensively within the health sector, including a large number of hospices, and is currently engaged on a project for the new MacMillan Cancer Care centre, part of the UCL Hospital. The WellChild garden will be dismantled after the show and transported to a new site at one of the WellChild centres for the continued enjoyment by the children and their families.

Finally, we extend our congratulations to the WellChild team on winning an impressive and well deserved Silver Gilt medal.
