What is the "Rated Life" of a lamp ?

This is the number of hours at which fifty per cent of lamps of a given type are expected to fail under standard test conditions and this information is usually indicated on the box.

It ranges from 1,000 hours for a standard incandescent GLS lamp to in excess of 100,000 hours for some of the LED lamps.

Rated life can be affected by temperature, vibration, abnormal fluctuations in supply voltage, switching and dimming.
