What is a Dimmer ?

A control device with a range of adjustments that allows the lighting levels to be raised or lowered.

It may be a rotary knob, a sllde action or a push button and in its simplest form can usually replace an existing light switch.

Most modern dimmers now use electronic circuitry. The dimmer must be a compatible match for the type of lighting being dimmed - as in mains voltage, low voltage or fluorescent - and must be rated for the total load of the circuit.
